Category: Events
Subtitle: What a Day, what a good cause ;o)
Keywords: Avoca, Pyrenees, Hot, Rod, Picnic, 2008
Summary: Hot rodders raise funds for rural hospital2008 Avoca-Pyrenees Hot Rod Picnic

I woke early on sunday 25-05-08 , Could have done with a bit more sleep , i guess i should have gone to bed earlier, my son and I had some breakfast then ran the chamois over the XP, seeing how my hardtop is still in pieces awaiting the panel shop we were taking james’s falcon it’s mostly standard but a one owner car which is solid and reliable for a first car and it looks better and is less likely to attract the law than a Commodore.
We were meeting simon Muntz and anyone else who was coming from Castlemaine, at the local newsagent departure time 9.00. am , which past with only simon, monica and ourselves showing up , so it was off to carrisbrook to meet Bandit and mandy then on to Avoca.

Photo

We arrived in the main St of Avoca at about 10 am where Gordon and Nicky were welcoming arrivals and selling raffle tickets to raise money for the local Hospital , first prize was a lovely Quilt , we then headed down to the riverside park where the show and shine was to be held , the site was alongside the market which was also being held to raise funds for the local hospital.

It is annoying to think that rural hospitals are so poorly funded that locals must hold fund-raising drives to support them it would be nice if funding for rural health was taken more seriously by all governments.

Around forty cars were on display and attracting a lot of attention , the weather was overcast but pleasant so we spent our time looking around the market which had local wines for sale home made small goods , preserves , cakes and craft , all in not a bad little market ,
the rest of the time was spent photographing the cars and chatting with other Rodder's.

After lunch we retired to Gordon's garage where he displayed his latest projects , the BBQ was lit and everyone continued enjoy the day.
Well done to Gordon And Nicky for organising another great picnic which raised $350 for the Local hospital.
Cheers Peter
