75 th Anniversary of the 33-34 Ford
To celebrate the 75 Th Anniversary of the 34 ford Castlemaine Rods held a rod run and show n shine over the weekend of the 12-13 th of September , the weekend kicked off with registrations and a BBQ / bench session on Friday night at the Wesley hill hall where entrants had a chance to catch up with friends and to get a preview of some of the fine cars that would be rolling in over the weekend .
The run was not restricted to 34 fords , any make or model four wheels or to where welcome to come celebrate and that's just what they did .
Saturday morning was reserved for a free public display held at the western reserve Castlemaine Which attracted loads of locals and tourists and with about a hundred cars on display and judging by the smiles everyone enjoyed the show.
At around one O'clock the cars left the oval to cruise out to Malmsbury for a spot of lunch ,
I don't think the locals knew what had hit them as a hundred plus Rods , Customs and restored cars rolled into the now very sleepy hollow , after a quick bite to eat it was time for another look at the cars , every time you turned your back new entrants would appear .
After several laps of the main street eyeballing some of the finest 33-34's from all over Australia it was time to head back to Castlemaine for some free time and to sit on the verandah knock back a couple of beers with Bandit and Justin and talk about the cars we had seen .
Saturday night entrants where to meet at the Castlemaine Golf club for a get together and to have a few drinks and relax to some rock and roll music , the evening was warm and the atmosphere friendly with dancing , raffles and finger food , but alas the cold I was struggling with and the fact that I would have to be up early to help set up for Sunday's show and shine meant that I pulled the pin around ten O'clock and headed home to get some sleep.
Sunday morning dawned overcast which worried some , but being optimists we set up for the show and shine regardless , with around two hundred forty cars entered by Saturday it was astonishing to see the constant stream of Rods , Customs and resto's filing through the gate to register , by lunch time parking all these cars had become a worry with new areas having to be opened , at a guess there would have to have been in excess of three hundred and fifty cars on site .
The weather caused no problems allowing the hundreds of entrants and public to soak up a fabulous display of 33-34 fords of all styles Roadsters , Coupes , Tourers and Commercials as well as the other cars that had come to join the celebration , there were also several trade stands selling everything from Rod Parts to hand made shirts , the food court was kept busy all day providing some great tucker .
I am unable to describe the scene as you looked across the sea of cars from the verandah of Rod's Museum / workshop , but as usual Rod And Carol Haddfields property proved to be an outstanding venue .
Thanks to Castlemaine Rods members for organising a great show , Rod and Carol Haddfield for the use of their property , Waddingtons Panels for their sponsorship of the event , and to the entrants who showed their cars and to the public for coming to see them.
