Traditonal Cars and Custom Culture hit newstead.
2008 Chopped Rod & Custom show
The newstead football ground was the venue for the first annual Chopped Rod & Custom show ,
put on by Talented painter , Pin striper and Editor of Chopped Magazine, Ryan Ford
and brother Kyle,
if the surname sounds familiar that's because Ryan and Kyle are the sons of Eddie Ford well known Australian pioneer Hot rodder and editor of various motoring magazines,
not a bad pedigree.
The Show flyer stated that the show was for pre 1965 traditional style rods and customs ,
no Billet anything all good so far ,
but there was some confusion amongst would be entrants as to what would Qualify, that resulted in some punters being turned away , not a good thing! perhaps next year there could be an area out side the football ground set aside for those who did not make the cut.
Unfortunately the skies opened on Friday delivering drenching rain (very much needed ) across Victoria , the few brave souls who arrived on Friday and set up their tents where treated to a double drenching when the ovals sprinkler system came on during the night causing a frantic hunt for the sprinklers power supply.
Fortunately for the sodden rodders Saturday dawned bright and warm and brought a steady stream of Rods and customs some making the trip from south Aus and even Queensland , there was a good variety of trad style rods some of which had been around since the seventies at one point there were three of the five Ardun headed rods residing in castlemaine on the oval , not bad eh!
Customs were well represented with a great line up of primered , flaked and striped cruisers and scrapers from the US and AUS , club jackets were prominent during the weekend as were Tats, Quoffs , turned up cuffs and fifties shirts, the women added a touch of grace but were out done in the fashion stakes by the blokes.
The week end provided a great chance to catch up with friends and to eyeball rods and customs done in a style that some were not familiar with , judging by the smiles i don’t think to many folks were disappointed
All in all the 2008 Chopped rod and custom show was a success and should be part of your show round for next year , Well done to Ryan ,Kyle and helpers , for a very enjoyable show, But for god’ sake get some better band s next year.
Cheers, Peter.
